What is an alternate?
In theatre, the alternate is a member of the troupe who steps in to play an important role on the stage.
Like understudies, alternates are performers who wait in the wings to fill in for their fellow cast members in need of a break from a taxing role.
We at Alternate Theatrical Productions strive to embody the drive and humble attitude of the theatre alternate. Drawing from the local community for our original content, talent, and resources, we seek to “fill in” by providing a creative outlet as a break from the 9-5 grind.
This is theatre for everyday creators: the passion and artistry of the 9-5 worker.
Based in Dayton, OH…
In the birthplace of aviation, inventions are everywhere. Pursuing a venue for an original script, a small group of Daytonians made an interesting discovery: there are talented actors–heading to a 9-5 and not heading to New York–with little access to the stage after college.
Our desire to bring original content to the stage combined with the need for a quality, workforce-friendly theater outlet became the basis for a new invention in keeping with our city’s heritage. ATP’s purpose is to produce new, engaging, entertaining and thought-provoking theater with the highest possible quality involving local, diverse, multi-generational talent for the enrichment of our communities.
